... it was so close made up for its shortcomings,

We drove home without mishap but it took us about 1 ½ hours to get through the motorway toll at Ventomiglia on Saturday afternoon. The Côte d'Azur is heaving with tourists and it is virtually impossible to go anywhere as you cannot park, have to queue for everything and are anyway unlikely to get in. The food is overpriced and the service is slow and don’t even think about going to the beach as you ...

Beautiful Bergamo. Oh how much I had heard about how wonderful this little town was from mum, who couldn't stay away from it during her time living in the UK, having visited on countless occasions!! Once again, mum's advice was sound!! We only had slightly over 24 hours to discover the delights of this little town, and we enjoyed every minute!

Bergamo is only a short distance from Milan, but again, it's so so different. Often overlooked, and I'm sure the ...

... hotel. So it was off to the streets to try and scalp one. It reminded me off the time my Dad and I scalped tickets to Phillies World Series in 1994. I ended up getting a cheaper ticket than if I would have bought one from the ticket booth.

After the game, I headed to the Duomo, the famous cathedral dates all the way back to 1386. I had a gelato in the Piazza Duomo just watching people walk by. Off to the left was ...
