      Cassons Mountain

A travel blog entry by mattquinlan on Jul 04, 2014

Today are going to walk up Cassons mountain, the mountain was taller than Mount Kosciusko. Cassons mountain was 2675 metres above sea level, Mount Kosciusko is 2228 meters above sea level. First we all walked to the shops to get a bottle of water each. There was two types of the water, fizzy or plain we got the plain but when we started to walk ping we found out it was fizzy. ... Sure enough, the valley just divided in two, and I'm supposed to take the right valley. Glad I caught that! I could've hiked the whole day up the wrong valley. Back to the correct valley, I find a little village that hasn't quite woken up ...

Finally I continue on a wooded path in the darkness until I find a place to camp ...

Looks like I'm getting back on track, and I can see the sizeable town of Bludunz up ahead. But first, snuggled up next to it on the hillside is the town of Nuziders. Here I pause for a strum session in a mini park with an old fashioned well--noticing what looks like a Turkish family leaving their very Austrian looking home across the street.

No "immigrant ghettos" here in Nuziders...

I continue down a peaceful country path up the valley, past lush grassy fields and little forest groves. One unique thing here are little wooden huts scattered throughout the fields. Not quite sure what they're for--my guess is they are for storing hay or something. Does give the fields a bit of character. Also along the way are little shrine-chapels with ...
