Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Admiral Geneva
Liked the decor, parking a little difficult with the one way system to get to the parking garage, but OK once I was used to the one way.Street parking a no no as there are not enough spaces near the hotel, have to use the garage parking which is literally around the corner,so no problem.
Room had a fan which was needed as it was very warm when we visited.
Staff are friendly and efficient, and they speak English.
This small, charming hotel was a great find
We really enjoyed our stay here at the Hotel Admiral. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Lots of breakfast choices, including eggs, pastry, cheeses, cereal, fruit, meats, etc. The oatmeal and breads were delicious. We just kept raving about it all day. Did¨'t need to eat again until dinner! The bed was very comfortable. The room was small but clean and well decorated. Free internet access was a bonus.
Great stay, great value
I recently stayed for 8 nights at the Hotel Admiral, and had a very pleasant time. The hotel is almost new, with tasteful decor and well appointed rooms. The room I had was not large, but it made the most of the space available, and being at the rear of the building it was quiet even with the window open. Staff were always courteous and efficient. Good location 3 minutes walk from the main rail and tram/bus networks.
The main advantages: free wifi internet, nice continental breakfast included. The disadvantages: it is located in Geneva's red light district, which was never a problem but may be off-putting to families.
Thoroughly recommended for business travellers.
Nice, Clean & Convenient
This little Hotel is very convenient to the train station as well as the Old Town of Geneva. The bed was very comfortable and staff very helpful. I loved that fact that they offer free internet access, plus WIFi is available to guests as well. A nice breakfast with lots of choices is set up for guest as well.
The only thing that bugged me was that the ceiling fan in my room needed serious dusting. Laying on the bed looking up at the ceiling it's all I noticed.
Issues with Hotel Admiral
After receiving several email confirmations for Hotel Admiral, I was told when I got there that some other customers missed their flight and therefore they had no rooms available. They arranged a hotel room for us 2 blocks away at a nasty hotel the hotel Admiral concierge referred to as their "sister hotel, just as nice with bigger rooms." HORRIBLE. Anyway, after going back to the Admiral and throwing a fit, the concierge somehow "found" an available room. After that I will say that the hotel stay was very nice. The hotel is modern and very clean and the afternoon and night concierges were very nice and informative and there's free internet. One thing to note though, while it's a plus that the hotel is a 5 minute walk from the train station, the area is still shady and the hotel is on a borderline shady block right next door to a porn shop. If you don't need to be close to the train station I would recommend staying on the other side of the water, which is MUCH classier and where most of the sites are anyway.
Oasis of service
Great little hotel 300 metres from the railway station is a sensation. Quiet, great staff, superb service - this place was an oasis for me after a fraught experience in Paris with another hotel. Close to all you need including great views of the lake, I'd recommend the Admiral to anyone!
Very comfortable and pleasant, and easy to get to
I stayed at the Hotel Admiral for one night recently, at the beginning of a business trip in Europe. As a single female traveler, I was a little bit nervous about the mention of this hotel being so close to the red light district. Indeed, there is some sort of x-rated establishment just next door. But the hotel itself is very clean, attractive, and quiet, and I would definitely stay there again. The area around the hotel is bustling and lively, with lots of international restaurants and people heading to and from the train station, and I felt perfectly comfortable.
The staff were very charming and friendly, and the breakfast was fantastic (I have never seen so many different kinds of cheeses, jams, and spreads to put on bread). I also really appreciated the free wireless internet access in my room. The room itself was tasteful and modern, with a comfortable bed and a very clean bathroom. Of course it was small, but that's typical for European hotels.
As has been mentioned, this hotel is just a couple of blocks from the train station, which makes it extremely easy to get to from the airport (there is a train station in the airport and the trip to downtown is just five minutes). Geneva is an easy city to get around on foot, or by bus. This hotel is just a few minutes walk from the lakefront, and about fifteen minutes walk from the old town area and many museums and attractions.
The Hotel Admiral is a very easy, pleasant, and comfortable choice in Geneva, with a good price too.
We had a great experience at the Admiral Hotel in Geneva. The hotel is very conveniently located near the main train station and it is just a few minutes walk. As all the rooms are non-smoking we greatly appreciated the atmosphere. This is a real selling point to Americans. The hotel is very quiet as it is located on a side street. There are black out curtains so the rooms are nice and dark. The breakfast buffet is absolutely grand and beautifully presented. If one eats a big breakfast you would only need a sandwich later on in the day. The owner is charming and was very gracious. I was in the reception room with my luggage for a couple of hours awaiting someone and he had a coffee prepared for me. I would heartlly recommend this hotel. Eventhough it is only a three star I consider it a four.
A great stay if your on a budget
The Hotel Admiral at first was a bit shocking for me and my family, as we drove into Geneva to find the hotel.
The directions provided on the website were excellent.
The Hotel is located however one block from teh Red Light District of Geneva and thank god the hotel has a 3 star rating as I pressume it keeps out most of the people who are looking for a different type of hotel. As such we were at first shocked to see this hotel and where it was located. That said, everything was uphill and bright after we walked into the lobby.
The staff spoke english were clean cut and very friendly. This was throughout our entire stay. The lobby was very clean and well kept, and even though it is a small hotel, the lobby reflects greatly on the hotel itself. The parking structure we used was located around the corner from the hotel and it was closer parking than some hotels even have on their property. In the lobby there is a breakfast area also that is very clean, modern and nice looking. The wood panel decor is beautiful, and the breakfast buffett includes, ham, cheese, salami, eggs, yogurt, juice, coffe, bread, tea, fruit, water, and if you have a special request they will try to accomodate you. Breakfast is included with your room stay and was very tasty and nice, not just a small buffett of bread but they really do a nice job.
The hotel elevator is small (just like most European hotels) I think 2 people barely fit in it... but that is fine.
The hotel has nonsmoking floors and smoking floors. This is great as we got a nonsmoking room. The rooms are small but again the Europeans use smaller rooms. The bed was extremely comfortable and though the room was cramped with our large suitcases, the bathrooms were ample and the room was very clean. Also there is free internet throughout the hotel, if you dont have a computer, there is one in the lobby and if you have a laptop they will give you a wireless card for free and they have internet for free in the rooms.
All said, the hotel says it is a 3 star hotel and I would honeslty give it a 2 and 1/2 star to a possible 3 star rating. For what its worth we were very happy with this hotel, my parents loved it, and location is also a key factor. The hotel is 10 minutes walking distance (and we are slow walkers) from Old Town, and the shopping area. Restaurants are all over, but very fancy and famous restuarants are located less than 10 minutes away.
My father said the other night if we come back to Geneva we would stay here again. That says a lot. If you want to pay for a hotel on the lake or river than you will pay a lot more than this hotel. The rates are fare for Geneva (but the are high). They are over $200 cheaper however than a hotel maybe 1 block away located on the water.
For value, cleanliness, great staff, comfort, and a great breakfast, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, you just need to get over the fact that it is located one block from the Red Light District. However, once inside the hotel, you never see any of that and feel as though you are really in a nice 3 star small hotel in Geneva.
Love the Hotel and the Staff
I have made a very long stay at the Hotel Admiral in Geneva and must admit that throughout all the duration of my stay, service and quality was constant without any change.
The Hotel is new, I mean bran new !!!
What a nice decoration and cosy atmosphere.
Oh, very important and not to forget, there is an Internet corner and WIFI in the rooms.
Last but not least, there's a very rich buffet breakfast that will satisfy the most demanding !!!

... Exploring the small town and shops here was great. Proceeding from our amazing experience we went to a local restaurant and ate lunch. After we headed back to Geneva for the last few hours. This is the day I have been looking forward to the entire trip. We took a 90 minute ride from Geneva through the Arve Valley to Chamonix in the French Alps. The ride there had spectacular views of the mountains. I have never seen mountains this beautiful. We arrived in Chamonix, a charming Alpine Village at the foot of Aiguille du Midi. ... it was time to get ready for dinner I freshen up my face and meet my friends in the lobby. We decided to go to a chicken place for dinner.
