... to allow ventilation
into the tunnels.
Onwards and upwards we head and it simply seems that this mountain railway
is just never-ending. Just when one thinks we have reached the top of the
mountain its into another tunnel and out it comes hugging the edge of yet
another mighty high mountain.
Along the way there are a few passing loops and we pass two other steam
hauled trains which are descending the pass.
We are soon about 2000m above sea level ...
Enjoyed one of our few later starts today - on the coach at 8.00 am. More hours of driving, to Switzerland today - through a 17 km tunnel. Heading to Lake Lucerne which is the cleanest lake in Europe. Stopped for a short orientation in the heart of the city - being Sunday many places were closed tho several were open. Everyone was jostling to take photos and selfies in front of it. We were both feeling tired by now, but no rest for the wicked. 30 September Left Lauterbrunnen at 8am this morning and made the quick journey to Lucerne, arriving before 10am. We weren't able to check in until 4pm unfortunately, so dropped our bags and had a look on the map at what to do. He was actually good at it :) I did my best to avoid being called up for the dancing and yodelling, as we were in the front row, but thought I'd better be a good sport when they did the chicken dance ...
