The 2:30 hrs train ride from Nagoya to Takayama was very scenic. I really got a bit homesick on this train ride. Takayama is a small town close to the Japanes mountains also called Japanese Alps. I wanted to have some, but there wasn't time to find the shop. I believe it's considered to have medicinal qualities when consumed. We then took a walk to a nearby street which is the Geisha centre, though I think it's primarily restaurants and tourist activities these days. ...

... the people, the sights and sounds of a modern bustling city, so similar to every other of its size and sophistication, yet so perfectly different for being completely Japanese. The young people's fashion provide a continual tableau of wonder. We chose a small "Japanese/Italian" restaurant again ... it seems if it's not Japanese, it's Italian ... not many other ethnic restaurants are represented. As we sat down a huge group of Japanese ...
