Entrada de Copan Ruinas Copan, Honduras
Leaving Roatan I felt a bit sad, like it was the end of something very special. Partly because it was truly paradise and almost the only place on this adventure where we could completely relax and not worry about everything that comes with doing a trip like this on a motorcycle. To be honest it has been really hard for Jess to stop thinking about the next destination (throughout this trip) because he is always planning ahead calculating risks and preparing for how to avoid them. However I wou...
Copan, Honduras jessandmalin... would come to haunt me in a few days when I did my scuba diving course, flippers and blisters arent a great mix.
The horse ride was pretty cool, we went up a mountain above the town, the view was quite stunning, my guide was pretty good, I made him stop in at a beautiful Hacienda restaurant and we had a few beers before heading back to town!
Copan is such a small town, so I ate tea pretty early to avoid and dramas with the army or police and the curfew and ...
... the country. It is a complicated situation, but the last we heard was that the president of Congress had taken over the presidency. Because things seem safe and stable here, we will probably go to the coffee plantation and the hot springs tomorrow and leave for Guatemala Tuesday, as planned.
So no worries! We´re safe, sound, and planning to enjoy a good dinner, some cross-stitch, and a movie in the hotel lobby before going to bed. This is definitely a day I will always remember.
... the bus stop. We were scarfing on food and drinking tons of liquid when the park ranger came up and told us that we only had 1 hour before the last bus went back to the town that we were staying in! We still had a 3 mile walk and a bus ride to do in 1 hour!!! We hopped up and started hoofing it. About half way, we heard the engine of an SUV. A really nice couple let us pile in, even though they were hauling enormous vases ...
Pena Blanca, Honduras claudiacfavre... sessions, 2 times a day, Monday through Thursday, with children 6 to 13 years. We have taught them greetings, colors, numbers, verbs of movement, and all this using songs and physical activity. And it works! It's quite pleasant, I must say, to hear them shout "red" when you show them a red index card or to laugh with them when Petra or I "order" them at full speed: "Everybody jump" Everybody walk ","Everybody crawl "," Sit down "," Stand up" to test their ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala mymzy... duly visited. Our guide, Saul, a self-confessed 70s John Lennon idolising rock and roll hippee was an absolute legent. He had either taken lots of drugs over the pat few decades or on something at the time. Most likely the latter, but either way, he provided us with some amazing stories in one of the most incredible sights we have ever seen.
Ben and the other 3 others we met in Antigua met up with GVI in ...
... in and began working with us on constructing the rebar. We imagine this was as great of experience for them as it was for us. Tomorrow morning our group will visit the local hostel, where the children who live in the mountains stay during the school week, going home during the weekend. This should be quite an experience for those who take this side trip. Others will remain at the work site to ...
Zacapa, Guatemala shellytoni... by side with them to build their homes is an unforgettable experience. Guatemala is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly. We've had comfortable accommodations and the food has been wonderful. Only a few items have been met with skepticism, but the fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the fields aren't what most of us are use to and something we will ...
Zacapa, Guatemala shellytoni... Marko has given way to the new churchgoing Marko.
And not just any church. I´ve been going to the fire and brimstone, burn in hell heathen, Seventh Day Adventist Church.
For those of you who know nothing of the Seventh Day Adventists they´re famous for owning the health food company Sanitarium and for helping to turn Mark Brandon "Chopper" Reid into a homicidal maniac on account of their ridiculously strict ...
... well as assorted other attractions. The cafe next to my hotel has a west facing roof terrace, perfect for sunset watching with a beer. The town is small, steep and dusty with cute cobbled streets set in a ring of hills. I can spend a few days here. Only 6 days till Jon arrives. I think this is the hardest trip I´ve done. Spending 6 months in countries where I don´t speak ...
