... This was the easiest approach rather than walking up all the steps.  There are two bridges over abysses that must be crossed to get into the monastery.  As you look down from one of the bridges you see a beautiful flower garden on the nuns.  These monasteries are sturdy stone structures perched on the top of these pinnacles.  There are many theories as to how they were built but it is known that the monks and visitors used to be pulled ...

Something funny we've noticed...Sylvia is allergic to Greece. She has had the worst hayfever since I guess retiring or spending time in Greece when we retire is out of the question now...LOL. There was a carpenters shop, with innumerable tools, lathes, grinders for removing corn off the cob, several wine presses and ploughs. There were also examples of the monk's rooms or cells, ...

Off the ferry and drove to a ruin at Dodoni. Met an English guy there who told us a about Vikos gorge near Ionia that we shouldn't miss.

Drove up to the gorge past all the old pack horse stone bridges in Zagoria - to the top of the gorge and up the mountain behind it ... very spectacular scenery. Particularly nice parked up the top in the middle of a thnderstorm.

... were on the bus! We passed several of the rock pinnacles topped with monasteries and through the cute little village of Kastriki.

Between the 14th and 16th centuries 24 monasteries were built – today 6 remain in use.

The bus dropped us off at Great Meteora the largest monastery.

There were heaps of people on bus tours at this one but the crowds ...
