... The rock formations of Meteora cover an area of 20 sq. km. These are the only such formations in Greece. As you approach Meteora from Kalambaka, the first monastery that you see high up on the rocks, is St. Stephen. This is the first monastery that we are going to visit. There is a bridge that you must cross to enter the monastery. There is an inscription as you enter "St. Jeremiah 1192". In fact this site was inhabited by its ...

... were on board it was pretty nice. We put our things in our snug little cabins before sitting down to a dinner of a huge plate of pasta. After dinner everyone seemed to be hanging out in the reception/bar/lounge area and watching as we left the port. Off the ferry and drove to a ruin at Dodoni. Met an English guy there who told us a about Vikos gorge near Ionia that we shouldn't miss.

Drove up to the gorge past all the old pack horse stone bridges in Zagoria - to the top of the gorge and up the mountain behind it ... very spectacular scenery. Particularly nice parked up the top in the middle of a thnderstorm.

... where we saw the cave in which the monks used to live. There are still wooden platforms lining the walls of the cave. There were even some crazy people actually climbing up to these. Seriously - lol On the same peak, but further around the mountain is the St George Madilas.

Our tour guide told as the story that, in days gone by, when a man injured himself, his wife would bind his wound in cloth. When he healed he would ...
