... little kids. Daniel had a blast, Raelyn opted out of this event. For $3.10 you got 20 minutes of riding as many bikes as you wanted. One bike that Daniel and I rode together quickly made me realize how out of shape I really am! You stand on pegs and bounce your seat up and down to make it go. This is all quadriceps work! There were a few other two-person bikes that we rode together and a few he did on his own.

Today the group went to the ancient city of Kamakura to see the big Buddha, see the commercialism at shrines and to tour Kamakura. We saw the Buddha, played on the beach and then toured a park on Enoshima island outside of Kamakura. What a beautiful place!!! Too bad that the day was interrupted by a hailstorm and a hard driving thunderstorm. The ocean was crazy rough and their were surfers everywhere! To see Japanese ...

This morning we met up and traveled to Kamakura, which is one of my favorite places so far. We spent a few hours visiting the local shops, including a TOTORO store!

I watched that movie so many times as a child it is unreal. So of course I had to make a purchase or two while I was there. My sister would have loved it.

I got the majority of my souvenirs and gifts for people on this trip. We came across another shrine or temple, I forget which one ...

... the town and although there were other sights to see, I couldn't find the energy to walk to them, so we made our way to the station and thence back to Ueno. We ate at a restaurant in Ueno station precincts and stumbled back to the hotel for a long, hot bath. Andy's gizmo recorded 15,874 steps, covering 7.58 miles, including 28 sets of stairs.

After speaking to Jan, on Skype, I was very pleasantly surprised to get a message from Vici, saying ...

... no seagulls, only hawks and crows or ravens. We headed up into Kamakura proper and I found a fabric store! I just couldn't resist. We continued on to the shrine. Which reminds me, this town was overrun with school kids. Everywhere we have been in Japan at any time of day and say of week there have been school children in mass. I am not sure if they actually go to school or just go to temples together during the day. Joel bought a fun snack of a big grape on a stick dipped in hard ...
