... the castle, where I stop for coffee. It's very steep and my legs are feeling it. I carry on and eventually come out at tiny little lakeside town. It's a beautiful (though a bit difficult) walk with magnificent views of the lake from up high. More photos. Back down lakeside, I head back towards Varenna. I stop at Hotel Villa Cipressi for late lunch. Spaghetti with duck ragu and porcini mushrooms. ...

The driving between mountains was ...

As close to Italy as I'll get, this time

... Our pasta arrives in a big bowl, family-style, floating in melted butter. It makes me winder why everything I eat isn't floating in butter. Even though we're too full to finish all our pasta, we still order chocolate cake and cappuccinos. Then we head down the hill again to go for a drink along the water. It's now we notice all the noise outside my hotel. Kids are allowed to drink beer and wine starting at 16 in Switzerland, which is fine, I just wish they had ...
