... because their wares weren't up to snuff. We found a shop that had a lot of the dishes we wanted to get - fun striped colors that would work great for Mexican food. They were good quality and less expensive than other places we had been, so it was a good find.

..."This is the day of miracle and wonder, this is a long distance call"... (Graceland CD is playing right as we are driving to Montblanc)

We then split off and I realized how bad I was at ...
El Rocío, Andalusia, Spain claesch... to see so many people taking advantage of the cycleway to get in their early morning walk, run or cycle. On glancing back towards the docks on the east bank I was surprised to see shipbuilding going on. Much of the original docks were built by English engineers for the loading of copper ore carried down from high up in the Sierras. Once on the west bank I picked my way through heavier traffic than I had anticipated (which remained the case for most of ...
Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal jamie_pete... shoulder and when the bad surface became endless road works things went from bad to worse. The satnav did not help when it directed me into a town where every street was cobbled - ever ridden a bike over cobbles? Not very nice. And for the first time on the trip I had been unable to resupply with juice. Shops hadn´t been open the day before (Sunday) and supermarkets do not open until 10 am, so I went over 30 km in ...
Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jamie_peteEl Puerto de Santa Maria (commonly called El Puerto) is a pleasant little port, not somewhere one would choose for a holiday, but ideally situated between Cadiz and Jerez. The campsite was clean, spacious, with good facilities and many Brits, Dutch and Germans over-wintering. It was also very popular with Spanish weekenders, which is not necessarily a good thing. The Spanish family in the caravan behind us left much to be ...

Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands -scooter... continuing to be hit by waves and waves of realization, excitement and understanding. An example- sporatically I will have moments where I say to myself'wow, I'm in Spain' as if I didn't fully realize it before. The waves of excitement are a different thing, more like a pinball machine in my head. Ideas, goals, activities bouncing around and around while I stare at my Spanish professor with a blank look on my face. That's enough philisophical ...
I write to you on my palm pilot as I sit on the couch with Yolanda and her 15 year old Daughter Alba. Yolanda watches television Alba chats away on the computer. Not much to report for today. After a long night of working on my Travelblog entries, I woke up at noon and worked on the computer for another hour before Yolanda and Javier woke up. I soon grew sleepy again and slept for another hour and a half before ...
Huelva, Spain sandramorrow... s cheapest and most interesting when the time comes. I'm also going to Cadiz in February for one day during their celebration called Carnival, sort of like the crazy partying that is infamous in Brazil under the same name. I have to buy/make a costume for that event, so I have to think about what I want to do and what's easiest/cheapest. Any ideas? Tonight I'm out for drinks with a few friends. My girl friends and I are meeting ...
Huelva, Spain catedoyle... restaurant in the world". Reservations open six months before the restaurant, which is only open six months of the year, and book up within a day or two. The food is challenging, textural, contradictory and developed as much in the lab as the kitchen. We couldn't make the trek to El Bulli proper but at Hacienda Benazuza's restaurant, the chefs use El Bulli menus and are overseen by the maestros themselves, so it's the nearest we're going to get. The hacienda was once ...
