... Ypres for The Last Post. We have an hour to ourselves first and have pancakes for tea. The crowds for The Last Post are amazing and largely in place about 40 minutes before it even starts. Despite being there an hour early we end up seeing little and the ceremony paled compared to any typical ANZAC service in NZ. We should have had Michael there. ... city artifacts. Disappointed, we continued on down the lane and were pleased to see that the windmills were still where the book said they'd be. It simply wouldn't do to come to the Low Countries and not see a windmill.

A little more walking, a spot of dinner, and we just caught the train back to Brussels. While I'm sure we'd have found plenty to do with another day in Brugge, I think the amount of time we had was pretty spot on.

... heading to the train station this morning, we visited the neighborhood market in Place Monge near our hotel. Between the assortment of seafood, cheese, raw and cooked meat, produce, flowers, and handicrafts, the market certainly put ours to shame. We pretended to be locals and sat at the bar at the brasserie across the street to have noissettes and croissants. Fueled for the day we headed to the Gare de Nord to catch our train to Bruges. ... my passport checked only to see that Zach hadn't made it very far. The guard wouldn't let him through without seeing our hotel reservation and plane tickets out of Belgium. I got them out and the guy spent what seemed like 20 minutes inspecting them. Finally we got the ok to go through, but honestly we didn't know if our train had left yet. We ran frantic as hell... and made it by about 2 minutes. My nerves were shot.
