    ... they are mostly full of arctic animals, which is fine, except those animals are used to the cold! So on a hot sunny day in the middle of summer they aren't doing a lot except lying down and panting! Still, the polar bear there was absolutely huge, and the zoo itself quite well presented. A note here on another surprising aspect of our stay. Mosquitos - oh my god mosquitos!! I guess again we shouldn't have been surprised given the lots of fresh water lying around from snow melt, but ...

    ... courses and wine. He had snow grouse soup and a yummy pastry that I got to eat :) for starter. Followed by another soup made from false morels and cured reindeer. He had the glow fried Arctic char for main and I had reindeer meatballs which were delicious. We shared Dylan's dessert because it was a strawberry rhubarb tartlet with cloudberry parfait.     ... night's dinner and afterword I headed out for a night-time ski on the lit trails. At one point the lights ended and I continued for another half an hour. The night sky was partly clear and I was hoping to get a glimpse of the Northern LIghts. A local brochure said that the aurora is visible 200 days a year in this area but the cloud cover often gets in the way. Alas there was no light show this night.
