... a massive city, but sort of expected a city style airport, not a regional one. Anyway, in a nice example of Simone and my thinking aligning, we quickly reckoned that it would be much simpler here to simply hire a car. So we asked for the finest cheapest car that any of the agencies there had and moments later (again, in proper English!) we were on our way in a Nissan something-or-other (Micra I think). It had been a while since I'd driven a manual, and that combined with driving on ...

... campfire site and another lean-to shelter. After the hanging bridge at Jäniskoski Rapids, the Juutua Trail runs along the northern riverbank and reaches a reindeer fence. The trail continues until it reaches a gravel road which you follow then continues uphill into a pine forest, reaching the highway just north of Siida. We got back from our walk at 9:15. ... David appreciated me refraining from singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as he took his first bite. Then it was time to rug up. I layered up with a long-sleeve thermal top, spencer, two long sleeve tops, jumper and jacket, with thermal pants, jeans, thermal socks, boots, beanie and gloves. I wondered if I should keep something in reserve - after all, it was a whole 2 degrees and it's only going to get worse. But I figured I could always lose a layer or two if ...

Drove back through Ivalo to do the grocery shopping. Then drove to Napapiiri, Finnish for the Arctic Circle. Absolute contrast to crossing the Arctic Circle in Norway 8 days ago. Huge complex, no snow and so commercial - yuk. But this is where Santa lives and you can pay to have your photo taken with him. Posted cards that will go to Aus. with Santaland post mark! Left Rob and Rob to go to the Arkticum Museum at Rovaneimi . Great museum in 2 parts, ...
