Last night, we made it to Panajachel in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Panajachel is on Lake Atitlan, which is a lake in the mountains and is surrounded by many different villages. Panajachel was interesting. It was a mix between the native Guatemalans and Mayan people and quite a few Americans who came down to visit and...
Last night was our first night in san marcos and as Leighann mentioned, it was a great hotel. We will post pictures as soon as we can. We walked around the town which was pretty small and we passed many hippies. The town is really chill and laid-back and they seem like they dont have a worry in the world (except for the internet cafe owner and some our neighbor at the hotel - they both have tudes for some reason). After 30 minutes of exploring we probably stumbled across 5 massage parlors, re...

Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala cc_world_tour... up to another three hours away on dirt road. So we pulled up stumps in this tiny little backwater town, in the middle of nowhere really to stay the night with the idea of heading off early tomorrow. Turnsout it was only like an hour to Semuc the next morning, but the road was pretty rough, so probably a great decision to pull up stumps at that stage of the night. 22nd May We drove to Semuc from wherever the hell it was we slept the night before. The road can best be described as a goat ...
semuc champey, Guatemala solskjaer20... it´s been three and a half months already. Living in Antigua has been an formative and awesome experience, but I´m definitely ready to be moving on. Earlier tonight I was doing a bit of packing and the like, and there were quite a few times where I just stopped, looked at my pack, and was just caught in disbelief that this really happening: I´m really going backpacking in Central America for two and a half months. I know ...
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala jaynichvolodov... impressive and left me with the split second feeling of what it would be like if I was the last person on earth after a vast earthquake. I was alone amougst all these ruins which took my breath away. I was quickly woken from my dream by the chicken buses honking in the back ground. Heading back to the hotel I met up with the group that I would be touring around with for the next 2 weeks.
Antigua Guatemala, Western Highlands, Guatemala salsita... no place to stretch your legs and after a 5 or 6 hour drive, my knees were in rough shape. Chris was luckier as he sat in the passenger's seat at the front. Never again will I sit at the front!!! I relished the moment that I got out of the van after that long trip and walked around restoring blood to my aching knees. Chris started to sneeze when we were still in Lanquin and the sneezes developed into a cold. For 3 or 4 days he was full of ...
