    ... off before the massive grand finale of fireworks. After the spectacular display we decided to try and make our way home. It was very hard to get home with all the people but we eventually made it home an hour after our original departure. It was a fun night and it was good to celebrate 50 years of Singapore being independent!

    ... enjoy some of the air show that went over the gardens and fireworks later at night. We stayed at the gardens until the night show. The raffles towers all light up and music is played in he background. It's a bit Disney-ish but we loved it! After that, we made our way for a late dinner at Lau Pa Sat. It's like a big open food court with loads of different places to choose to eat. It had a brilliant atmosphere, so we stayed there for dinner and a drink! And then it was bed time ...

    ... matching bright orange stickers we had to wear during our trip. While we waited for the tour to start we wandered around the complex and saw ponds filled with various sized fish and surrounded by palm trees, tropical plants and the national flower of Singapore, the orchid. Oh, and Westlife were playing in the background! What better way is there to start a day? The bus driver met us to start the tour asking the typical question 'where are you from?' ...

    ... Bangkok - a three-hour flight but world's apart from Singapore.

    In slightly true to budget airline form, Jetstar Asia had over-sold the flight, so it took a while to unload passengers and luggage so we were a little late leaving Singapore.

    We are all safely in Bangkok, and judging from the reactions from the short walk to the hotel tonight, the boys are acutely aware we are not in Singapore anymore....

    So here we are in Singapore. Its a culture shock for us, not because its Asia, we have experienced Asia many times before. Its because its not Europe.

    As difficult as it sometimes was to communicate in some parts of Europe I already miss the challenge of trying to speak the local language. Despite the fact that there is little or or no language barrier here service is nowhere near as friendly as in Europe and I miss that too. Perhaps that's because there is no tipping culture ...
