I arrive at my hostel, Community Hostel and instantly feel I have at least got one thing right with choice as the staff are fantastic and everybody is really nice and social. I sit down and have a really nice breakfast of fruits and end up talking to a couple of girls who have more or less just arrived themselves. We decide to go on a bit of a walk around the old town.

... restaurant was in the shade. Tried the local beer called Pilsner: found it lacked body. The local dish called fritada quitena was okay. It was fried pork [the hell had been cooked out of it], plantains and two types of corn/maize. We moved inside for the final beverage round. I tried a Santo Domingo, a coffee with amaretto [no whipped cream]. It was not bad actually. Second straight day wound up only with two meals $22.00. Used a $100.00 note to pay for dinner as a way to get smaller ...
