Tunisia's white sandy beaches are perfect for relaxing days spent sunbathing on the beach, and as much as I love the tranquility of the beach days we had decided we wanted more out of our holiday than lazy days on the beach. So when an opportunity to go on a two-day "Sahara" arose we decided to go for it.
So Friday we we’re up at 0630, an ungodly hour which should be spent sleeping when you’re on holiday in my mind, but the town had long passed ...

Kelibi, Tunisia sianethArrived at Douz, the gateway to the Sahara at just after 4pm. Dressed in traditional clothing out of necessity, the heat is tremendous, never felt anything like it. Words cannot describe the experience, especially when the sand started to whip around us. The Sahara sand is incredibly soft and fine, feels just like powder. The Desert was very disorientating.

It was here that they filmed Star Wars (the original) -Luke's Aunt and Uncle's home. we also saw homes built out of the stones of the atls mountains (desert of rocks) that were also invisible to the eye until it was too late (Roman safety again). We then drove to Douz which is the start of the Sahara desert. We did the typical tourist thing ...
Douz, Tunisia janda... in the Tunis Baro museum. What makes this place different from the many other Roman remains I have seen - at that is many - is a number of the buildings are underground and complete. I have never walked into a Roman house with ceiling still intact until now. To escape the heat the clever Romans built villas with a floor underground. These are not basements or ...
