          I've contacted Rob again, the Canadian in Tochigi (about 20 km away) who moved here from Toronto with his Japanese wife and kids to hook up for a ride tomorrow. We've got our fingers crossed that the weather will be dry.

          ... It also got colder as I climbed higher but the colour of the leaves became more vibrant. At one point, I rose up onto a highland area that contained some kind of a windmill-shaped building. Eventually, I came to a huge green building that is a visitor centre for hikers. Apparently, this area has a well known trail that is traversed by hikers that go from lodge to lodge.
