On the 1st January, we left Italy for the French country side. It was our longest drive of about 500km. The scenery was beautiful with snow covered fields and small towns. We drove through the Mont Blanc tunnel which is 12km long through the mountains. We arrived late in the afternoon with the two satellite navigation systems taking us different routes - one along a rode and the other on a mud track. We are staying in my sisters and brother-in-laws house in the small town ...

... From Beaune, enjoy a scenic ride along Burgundy's Route des Vins ("Wine Road") as you proceed to Macon, arriving in the late afternoon. Here, your France River Cruise Tour begins as you embark your ship.

This evening, you'll gather with your fellow passengers and meet your ship's crew. After savoring your first dinner aboard the ship, enjoy an onboard activity.

... rest up. When the others got back we went up,to the tour directors meeting, followed by a fire drill, then we were invited up to the top deck by the captain to watch our departure from Chalon-sur-Saone to Tournus which is just over 3 hours away, the crew handed out glasses of bubbly to everyone, so was very pleasant. We then got ready for the Captain's dinner at 7.15pm with a set menu, lovely meal, although noisy & was a long ...

The other side, we settled into the 430 mile journey south via Dijon to Macon. We had only picked the town because it had a hotel and Buffalo Grill in close proximity to each other and the motorway. The Ibis Budget hotel was just as expected – clean and boring however the meal was
great and the little bar opposite the hotel filled the rest of the evening, getting us in the holiday mood nicely.

... and off to McDonalds for something to eat.

While on the motorway I came up behind a Dutch caravan which started to snake at 70mph. t got to the stage where there were puffs of smoke coming from the tyres as it jumped from side to side.
The driver managed to bring it under control but was very, very lucky.

Hopefully, tomorrows stage will be plain sailing all the way.
