    Day 20: Avignon and Beaune

A travel blog entry by creeky on Jul 25, 2015

Today started in a very disappointing way, as we walked in to have our breakfast we were greeted with many hungry people. We found very little juice, no bread or hot food, very little cereal (many eating on plates and with forks due to no bowls or spoons), and one of our tour party clearing tables so many of us could sit down. Apparently having two groups eating close to each other didn't work, and the hotel didn't cope very well. On the plus side our tour director did say as ...

We started the day berthed at Beaune and there was a early excursion that started off at 0800 but we decided to miss it and have lazy morning plus Patricia had her her done in the hairdressers. Whilst that early party went off the ship moved to Macon, they came by bus after their excursion. Our excursion was in the afternoon at 1330 ...

Today we set off at 1000 to get the TGV train from Paris to Dijon, the distance is 315 km but this train goes up to 200 mph and is reliable to the minute, we were due to get there by 1358 and we did to the minute. We were met at Dijon by a coach and the transfer to the ship was via a little town called Beaune where a couple of excursions was laid on for us. We had the choice of looking around a medieval hospital or ...

... ridiculous, perhaps the comercants are waiting in hope for rich Arabs, Americans or Russian oligarchs or more likely they are in fools paradise. In Foix, a very attractive medieval fortified town on the French side of the Pyrenees, a cafe owner bemoans the French economy and politicians yet charges double the price of her counterpart across the border in Spain.

Just for a bit of fun, mention the costs of the peage to Monsieur if you want to see a ...

    Historical Burgundy

We were bussed into Tournus for our walking tour as our ship was still being repaired from its previous bingle. Tournus was an old walled town, as most of them are, and it's main attraction was St Philibert Abbey. A Romanesque church, it was built between the 10th and 12th centuries and contained a quite large crypt originally used as ...
