We departed Rome on time at 7.50am and had a pleasant rail trip to Venice Mestre station where we changed to a coach for the trip to Villach. Train got up to 250kph in places and there were lots of tunnels. The Coach was very comfortable and the scenery very interesting as we left the plain behind and headed into the mountains. It took about 3 hours to reach Villach and we did not have to wait long to get picked up by Betttina, our home exchange contact. She drove us ...

Dam just a short run from base and we passed some amazing waterfalls and arrived with not another person around - not a bad thing to be alone when you are stood on a glass platform at 200m. Back into Gmund for a look around the Porche Museum and town, quick bite to eat with a rather indulgent Iced Coffee.

had other ideas and mother nature sneaked in a rather chilly 2 Deg and at 2042 m high that is cold so back to Hochalmspitze for a chill.

... in Slovenia by about 4.30pm at the latest. The route to get there was to bypass via the Grossglockner pass in Austria, reknowned for the driving experience. An hour and a bit and we made it to the base of the pass, to find that there was a toll on the road - but a little too late - it was going to take longer to go back the way we came, so we went through... After a good 20 mins of driving we made it to the top, and we both agreed that it was an amazing sight! At 2500m, about ...
