Arrived at Linz today which is the third largest city in Austria. Population 200,000, and is home Austria's largest steel company. From here we travel in the historic Majestic Emperor train to Salsberg. The train is very ornate and gives you an idea of what it was like to travel in style so many years ago. We had a coach trip around the city and then a walking tour followed by 2 hours free time. We had ...

Another wander through the narrow cobbled streets of the old town and the wide paved car-free streets of the new mall saw us back at our room for a rest. Well it is a "rest day". Dinner was BYO everything in the corridor outside our room, which happened to be the last one on the floor. There was a wide variety of food tonight, washed down with German beer and South African ...

Love it here in Passau. Our last stop in Germany. Our guide who was French told us that Hitler fell in the river here as a young child and someone saved him. Pity. The old town is beautiful. They have a problem with flooding as they are on a peninsula with 3 rivers. The Danube, the Inn and the Iltz. A lot of the buildings have had to have all the plaster removed and replaced to second floor ...

... Krumlov is an absolute gem!
The city was badly neglected after WW2 but since the end of the Cold War, the city has been returned to its former glory and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992. Many of the pics below were taken from State Castle, with its gothic tower, 300 rooms and 3-story Mantle Bridge. The moat area is home to some bears which remained hidden while we were there.
