Greetings from Queenstown

Some of you have already seen that I put a couple of new photos in the last two entries before this one but for those who don't know, feel free to take a look. The girls came back from their glacier hike absolutely ringing wet. Apparently the rain didn't stop AT ALL for the entire day so they were very wet and extremely cold. They all agreed that they could see how the glacier could be stunning on a nice day but due to the weather conditions, visibility was very poor. When I saw all of their ...

The southern windy city

Hello all, Today we drove from Franz Joseph to Wanaka. ALong the way, we stopped at Lake Matheson. It was a really still lake in the morning and got a great view/reflection of Mount Cook. It was also really cold. To warm up, I did the 1.5 hour walk around the lake. That was a good one, as we got much better views of Mt. Cook than just the lookout. Later on we stopped for some lunch at a fancy visitor's center and I saw the funniest sign of the trip. It showed a guy falling off his bike. I thi...

Wanaka

Wanaka was just a brief stop off for us as we weren't skiing or anything there. Spent a night at the Wanaka Hotel (sounds posh but it wasn't much better than a hostel). Went out to Roz's bar and had 'I heart Roz' stamped on our wrists. And it stayed for about a week!

It's only been a week since we last 'updated' but my goodness so much has happened!! We started the Kiwi Experience in Christchurch, first stop Westport. Not a whole lot happens here but met some great people on the way. Made a quick stop at Buller Adventures and Emma and I went horse trekking, through mountains, rivers and beaches (and all in an hour and a half!) Despite my loathing of horses I had an incredible time, the views were gorgeous and the general experience was great - I even got ...

Wanaka

yey, (I was told the correct spelling not yeh but yey). We are here in Wanaka which is about 1.5 hours from Queenstown. Yesterday we did a hike around Lake Murchison in the early morning - the clouds had cleared and you could see Mt Cook and Mt Tasman reflected in the water - it was beautiful and nice to see the peaks in person! We also did a short hike up to the Fox Glacier, then headed out driving again to Wanaka - probably about 3 hrs or so. Scenery was amazing especially going up into Haa...

Wanaka

So. Climbed Franz Josef glacier yesterday the southern hemispheres steepest and fastest flowing glacier. We got kitted out at 7.45 and then piled into a van that took us to the valley. We then walked for about an hour to the terminal point of the glacier with our gear and from there put on our Crampons and Helmets and headed up the huge river of ice. It's about 1km wide and 12 km long, but from afar it looks deceptively small. When you finally get there its massive. We walked about 4 km up th...

Puzzling world

Saturday, 7.15am and we're off to Wanaka - if only we had a little more sleep, but that is what the bus is for! First stop is Lake Matheson, near the Fox Glacier. Emmerline is doing her sky dive here this morning. Its a beautiful sunny and clear morning. The lake has the perfect reflection of mt cook, the highest point in NZ. We then kick back with a cup of tea and enjoy the views as we await Emmerline and the others return from the sky. We continue along the Haast pass through the national p...

Free falling over Lake Wanaka

Getting on the bus to Wanaka, we managed to grab a couple of seats with extra leg room at the back and laid back for our journey, taking in the amazing scenery. Upon arriving in Wanaka, we were booked in for our skydive at a local company and at this point on the bus we weren't thinking too much about it. We weren't even feeling scared and so we just laid back to enjoy the ride. Enroute to Lake Wanaka, we stopped at a mirror lake in the very early morning. The mist was still copvering the cou...

Franz Josef glazier!!

The morning after the night before, never a fun time, but certainly not a good state to be getting on a coach in!!The party the night before had gone with a swing and once it had got around to starting it had been a good giggle! The costumes, as I'm sure Donna will mention in the previous entry were fantastic and everyone made an effort, which was good to see!! After a dispute with the alarm clock over the time, you know the usual, it can't possibly be that time already!!But whn you have all ...
