Located in the heart of Old Town, the location of this hotel makes it easy to walk to many destinations in the city. There are so many good things to say about this hotel. The location is superb...just steps from the main market plaza and all different methods of public transportation. Our room (we had a suite) was very comfortable with many extras such as a heated floor in the bathroom...electric tea kettle...mini bar contents included, etc. The breakfast buffet (with cooked to order eggs/omelets) is amazing. The only negative thing that I can say is that it is definitely on the expensive side. Another issue was the wi-fi. It was very frustrating because you had to constantly keep logging in. You would be on the internet and it would lose the connection time after time. If you are looking for an economical hotel, this would not be it. If, however, price is not an issue, you definitely won't be disappointed.

Great service and comfort
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful- the first time you return to the hotel they will hand you the right key without asking. The rooms are comfortable and quite spacious for such an old building- the de-luxe rooms give you a sitting area away from the bedroom and free minibar. Rooms to the front (onto "Im Tal") tend to be fairly quiet but others to either side can be noisy at night with windows open.
Breakfast is good, strawberries much of the year, and the wonderful selection of German breads is always a joy. To eat breakfast on the balcony is very pleasant.
Price: quite high.
Location right by Isartor S bahn stop is good- beware you need the entrance at the opposite end to the Deutschesmuseum one.
What a deal!
This is one of the best hotels we stayed in during our recent trip to Germany and Italy. It has all the amenities one could want in a hotel: beautiful and quiet rooms, spotless bathroom with good water pressure, and a extremely helpful, welcoming staff. The property is exquisitely decorated. The beds are very comfortable and the views are terrific. The price was terrific and the location was incredible. It's a perfect place to a stay in Munich.
Hotel Torbrau was as good as its reviews!
We were delighted with the Torbrau during our brief stay in May, 2004. All renovations are complete and the rooms and public areas are in top shape. The location is unbeatable. If you take the air-train from the airport, there is a stop almost at the hotel door. Staff was friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast was first-rate. Highly recommended.
...we had a longer stay. This hotel is terrific! Absolutely impossible to say too much about the quality of the staff, the breakfast, the location, the room, etc... A little pricey, but worth it. We had room facing the street (with a balcony) and it was completely quiet.
The Hofbrau Haus acround the corner isn't worth much...but peek in to say you've been there...there's a much, much, much better place around the corner from the Hofbrau Haus...I believe it's the Augusteiner Haus (no tourists here...and the food's actually very good and affordable).
Finally, upon departure, we learned that the S-bahn station across the street (!) would take us directly to the Airport...talk about convenience!!!
This hotel is fantastic. GReat location, GReat Service and the best breakfast anywhere. Stayed for one week in May of 2003.This hotel was close to everything and is right next to one of the gates of old Munich.
I highly recommed this Hotel
Excellent location, small but very comfortable rooms, very good breakfast.
Second delightful stay at the Torbrau
We first stayed at the Hotel Torbrau in March 2001 based on a Karen Brown listing. We were so pleased that when we found ourselves returning to Munich in December 2003, we booked again. On this trip, my wife and I were traveling with our daughter who is in her early twenties. We were on a holiday trip to see the Minuch Christmas markets, to shop Munich, and to see some of the pleasant countyside.
(in this context, "see" means shop)
Once again, the Torbrau was excellent. The hotel is located just two blocks from the Marienplatz and is close to excellent shopping, the Deutsches Museum, and the Residenz Museum. It is also very close to the U Bahn and S Bahn stations althought we did not use these services. We arrived by rental car from the airport. The driving directions from the hotel web site were very good but I still managed to get lost, my fault, not theirs. The hotel has controlled access parking on a side street and we never had a problem getting a space. They charge 11 EUR per day for this service.
The triple room was spacious (for Europe) and well appointed including an immaculate bathroom. There is an elevator but it starts on a landing about five steps up. This was not a problem for us.
One of the most positive aspects of this hotel is the extremely helpful and friendly staff members. We recognized most of the staff from our visit two years earlier. They have figured out how to keep good people.
Their English skills were excellent. The breakfast is served in a very pleasant dining room and was very good. The normal European buffet of meats, cheeses, cereals, soft boiled eggs, and delighful breads but you could also special order scrambled or fried eggs with bacon. The same resturant is open for a nice lunch in the afternoon but not open at night. Even our waitress was recognized from our previous trip, a very nice lady from Ireland.
As mentioned before, the entire staff was outstanding but the desk staff and managers were exceptional. They knew the city well and were able to answer all of our questions about shopping and sightseeing.
They picked up on our personal preferences quickly. We needed to leave early for our return flight and would miss breakfast. The desk clerk suggested and then immediatly arranged for a takeout breakfast to be ready for us at 6:15 AM the next morning. This was quite a help and very good.
One of the reasons we returned to Minich was this hotel. We were not disappointed in the city or the hotel.
Great hotel,great location
This hotel is fantastic. Location is great. Breakfast is excellent. It has more than most and is very tasty. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is very quiet which is not always the case in Munich. I would stay here again. It is several steps from a S/U bahn station. It seemed perfect and I was completely satisfied.
Perfect in every way!
The location was absolutely perfect for sightseeing and the S bahn. The old hotel was charming but with all the modern conveniences we seem to require these days. There was even an ice machine, something I value highly and rarely find in Europe even in much higher rated hotels. The staff was friendly and very helpful in getting opera tickets, subway tickets, etc. The breakfast was delicious, better than the 16 euro ones I paid for in the other hotels we stayed in on our trip.
Great location and breakfast
We stayed at Hotel Torbrau in May 2003. Loved the hotel. The triple room we had is nice and spacious. The bathroom has 2 sinks which is great. Breakfast was wonderful. They serve salmon, brie, strawberries and cream as well as eggs and other meats. Definitely would recommend it to other people. Location is good too. Just a 5 minute walk to Marienplatz.

Today I woke up feeling about as dreary as the weather was. I had the most awful headache and the temptation to pull the covers over my head was very strong. However, the fact that this was our only full day in Munchen was enough motivation to get me out of bed, downing a couple of ibuprofen and heading into the shower. Well, with 6 shower heads …
The trip to Munich was a short two hour train ride from Innsbruck. We were lucky enough to score a cabin with huge windows and had it all to ourselves. The scenery was magnificent as we went from the mountainous Alps in Austria to the rolling hills of Bavaria and far too quickly the urban sprawl of Munich.

Today was the day for us to visit the Dachau Concentration Camp. After spending a lot of time in Berlin at war related places, we had deliberately had a break during our time in Munich. However, there was no way we could not visit this place, so today was the day.

Using our prepurchased Bayern (Bavaria) Ticket we caught the train to the town of Füssen. It was a journey of approximately two hours with interesting scenery along the way.
The most exciting part of the journey was that we finally got to see snow alongside the train tracks!
