The temple is called “Temple of the Tooth” because one of Buddha´s teeth is kept inside of this temple. To be more specific, it´s a relic of Buddha´s left wisdom tooth. Let me tell you the story of how Buddha´s tooth appeared on the island of Sri Lanka.

Our first morning in Kandy started with a drunk tuk tuk driver who was intent on scaring us to death on our short journey to the Temple of the tooth. The restored the day went like this:
- university lecturer gave us a guided tour of the Temple. Anglo-Sri Lankan relations were then broken when he tried to charge us 8 times our agreed tour price!
- learnt heaps about buddhism
- walked around the lake and the shops
- chatted to the locals - incredibly ...
... going so fast that at one point, we sped straight into a cow. No joke, the cow was in the middle of the road and we just slammed into it. I, obviously, screamed but the cow just got back up again looking pretty annoyed and Bandulla drove off.
