We farewelled Italy today and enter Switzerland. Which is good because I kept saying 'Danke' (thank you) to people in Italy, instead of 'grazie'. In two days time it will be 'merci'. On arrival to Lucerne we went up to the Lion monument which commemorates the massacre of the Swiss Guards in 1792 during the French Revolution. It was a very impressive sculpture. We were then off for a cruise ...

... pretty tired by then from all the tooing and froing to the station in the rain, so decided to find a riverside bar and have a much deserved glass of wine. We sat down and ordered two glasses at the very high price of 13 CHF each, to find that a glass of wine in Switzerland was only 100ml - gone in basically one sip. As we would obviously go broke at that rate, we headed to the closeby Coop supermarket, where we got ...

With a mix of sadness and joy, we said au revoir to Paris yesterday and had our final croissant and café. The best part about the train journey to Switzerland was watching the changing landscape as we passed through eastern France. Every now and then, the countryside was dotted romantically with little villages. We knew we were in for a treat when we started to see the mountains emerge in the distance. The way to our hostel (called ...
