Hotel look quite nice from the outside with a nice driveway.
We were part of a group of 11 and as such we got the worst rooms the hotel had to offer. 4 of the rooms were in the "basement" of the hotel. Rooms were pretty small. Windows were exactly like those basement units of houses ie just the very top of the rooms -you can't look out of it. 1 of the room on the 6th floor had a "half window" that you have to kneel to look out. This "hotel" was obviously not built for a hotel but was a palace before. Service was OK, Internet was quite expensive at about 630 NPR for 1 hour, they charge tax and a 10% service fee for internet! Quite a rip off. Will not stay here if I ever go back to Katmandu.

A reasonable base to have in Kathmandu, quite central to a number of toursit sites.

Today is our last full day in Kathmandu. There is some relief to leaving this chaotic, dirty, hyper-energetic (Bangkok on steroids) city. And then there is some remorse as well, because of the excitement, the vendors, temples and food. A pretty interesting place. This morning we made it down to our buffet breakfast in plenty of time to experience it …

Today was our first day on this entire trip where we weren't on a schedule. No guide, no itinerary. We slept in and it felt great. Our room is great. Very large suite with a large living room in a very private corner. Nice and quiet.

We went down to the free breakfast buffet at the hotel. It is an unusual mix of western food (eggs, …

Today started out very promising. We woke up in the Cai Yuan Hotel in Zhangmu, the border town between Tibet and China. There is only one road that winds through this crazy town. The road is wide enough for cars to park on each curb (haha, what curb?) and for one vehicle to head down the middle of the road. Yet, what do they do here? There is a …

Nepali Tea, Dodging Traffic & Capital Cities

... we went out for dinner with all the volunteers and we ran into him and his brothers trying to sell the same pictures and then his brother starts asking us where we're from and then gives us the capital city (Justin - may have been the same kid!!) of the country, so we decide to test him and this kid knows his stuff-including the pronunciation - Roma, not Rome!
