Initially, it was mountains with green pastures going up very high, then rolling green fields. We had to stop at a petrol station just over the border to buy a vignette (road tax) for Cesare for our time in Switzerland. This cost 34,50 euros vs Austrian 8,50 - not sure if that means no more tolls ...

... boo' the kids were out rolling around in the snow. They went absolutely ballistic with no gloves or scarves, chucking snowballs & building little snowmen. A day they'll always remember. It rained all night and cooled things off - a bit too much actually. Yesterday, it was almost 90 degrees. Today, it was only 50 degrees and overcast. Good weather for cycling except that we began the day with a 20 kilometer downhill back to the Rhine.

We did have one 4km climb to the border town of Bad Sackingen. The temperature was warming, but now it was starting to drizzle. ...
