... marker has a wrought iron cross rather than gravestone, and in front of the marker is fresh soil with fresh flowers. Many folks were milling about the cemetery, most in traditional German clothing. We took a seat in the huge church; it was gorgeous inside-- very cathedral like. It kept filling up, then before we knew it, the band from last night (marching through the town at 11pm, 1am etc) played outside the church. After their songs, they paraded into church ...

There was a storm predicted today and we could see some clouds but it did not look close yet. We decided to find the walking path up to the Castello. It was steep - very steep!! Sue was glad that she had been training on the Springwood steps. This made us realise how well placed these castles really are. Dinner was ...

... towers as accommodation. The imposing Castel Pergine overlooks the Upper Valsugana and Lake Caldonazzo. Because of its strategic position guarding the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate, Historians use to think Pergine Castle rises on the site of an old prehistoric fortress, which later became a Roman settlement; later on, it was transformed into a Longobard stronghold. Erected in the 13th century, it belonged to the Dukes of Austria, ...
