        ... Nang for our last night in Thailand. I would never see that bike again, other than in pictures. Hard to explain the feeling. I hated it for throwing me headlong against the road, yet at the same time, I knew I was going to miss it, almost like a friend, with who I’ve lived some of the most personal and crazy adventures in Southeast Asia.         ... some strange ideas about piles...

        We decided to have a go at making it to Langkawi Island. There's a car-ferry but it took us ages to find it and it didn't really look like we'd make it back in time for James' and Ivy's plane in the morning so we contented ourselves with checking out the neighbouring state of Kedar. Much more Muslim than the Chinese majority state of Pinang.
