Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Saint George Prague
After saying at the St George hotel for three nights with my wife and two friends I would recommend this hotel to anyone.Spotlessly clean, very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast a pleasure to eat in spotless diningroom. The hotel is just 200m from pavlova metro and an exelent tram system that can take you to any part of the city. There are a few reasturants very close too the hotel that serve some of the best food i have eaten (Legende and Evergreen). Well done St Georges can't wait for our next visit
The best hotel
I stayed at this hotel for 16 nights (from 11 to 27 of juli) the sommer of 2005, and found that it exceeded all of my requirements and expectations. The hotel is generally nice looking - it actually looks like the pictures. The staff is unbeliavable friendly and helpful. The cleaningpeople stay the whole day and clean your room whenever you decide to go out. They have a nice hotel bar/lounge, which is very social, a nice place for meeting other guests of the hotel. The only thing I missed at this hotel, was a warm breakfast (scrambled eggs), something which is kinda uncommon all over Prague.
The hotel is located a few minutes outside the main tourist route, which means that restaurants around the hotel are cheap (and nice). The main tourist areas are all within walking distance, and if you don't feel like walking, there's a metrostop and a tramstop 200 metres from the hotel.
I'll recommend this hotel for everybody. It really made my vacation outstanding, and I would never consider staying anywhere else in Prague.
Great Value Hotel
We had never been to Prague and didn't know where to stay, picked this hotel from an internet site and couldn't have been any happier - we thought the location was fine, 10 mins walk from the new part of town and 15/20 mins from the old part of town. Even walking back to the hotel in the dark felt fine to us (2 females).
The hotel and rooms were very clean and staff very friendly and were happy to help and give directions.
I would definately stay in this hotel again if I went back to Prague and would recommend it to anyone.
Great value all round!
Excellent hotel, great value for money
The hotel's location is not ideal in that there is nothing much to see or do in the immediate vicinity. The area is quite run down but the tourist area, however, is only a 10 minute walk. We could not find fault with the hotel itself, it was spotlessly clean, the breakfast was very good and the the staff friendly.
All in all, good value for money, the only drawback would be location.
Best hotel ever!
Having visited Prague 5 times over the last 3 years we have found the St George to be perfect for any kind of visit. The hotel is only 10 mins walk from Wenceslas square and the area is entirely safe. We have visited at different times of the year and even on dark nights in february in the snow we have always felt completely safe. There are number of restaurants nearby and an excellent one called 'the evergreen' next door to the hotel which has excellent food and is very cheap. The staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms are spotlessly clean. We have stayed at this hotel every time we have been in Prague and would recommend it to anyone be it a family or a couple.
Excellent Hotel, great value for money
Just back from Prague and stayed at the St.George. Excellent value clean, tidy and very freindly and helpful staff.
The Evergreen restaurant just at the corner of the street serves great food and once again great value.
Good walk into the main square but it was welcomed to walk of the rich food.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for 1st class value.
Good Value For Money
I have just come back from an extremely enjoyable stay at the St.George. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room clean, warm and comfortable, and the breakfast was plentiful with lots of choice. The only downside was that it is a good 15 minute walk to the centre of town. On the whole though, a great value hotel and I would happily recommend it to anyone.
The Hotel St George - Superb value for your money!
Value for money, the St George must rate as one of the best hotels my wife and I have ever stayed in during our 37 years of marriage and travel.
It is set in a run-down area and our thoughts in the taxi from the airport were along the lines of "What have we let ourselves in for?" Contrary to other peoples comments though, we later found ourselves feeling far more comfortable walking through this area than we would do through certain areas of Nottingham or Leicester!
The hotel itself is absolutely spotless with new decor throughout. Our room was adequately large enough for two people and brewing facilities and mini bar were provided. (The mini-bar, believe it or not, at normal bar prices!) The staff were some of the most courteous we have ever encountered anywhere in the world. Rooms were cleaned daily -towels were changed on a daily basis.
Taxis booked through the hotel were always on time and we NEVER got ripped off by the notorious Czech taxi drivers. They will arrange collections from the airport to meet your flight.
Breakfasts were pretty much standard continental fayre, but with a larger choice than normally found.
We shall certainly stay here again on our next trip to this beautiful city.
Any improvements required? We were a little surprised to discover the reception did not hold stocks of stamps for visitors postcards!
St George Praha 2
I stayed in the St George on a leisure trip for three nights. The hotel was functional, the biggest majority of the staff were frindly and would go out of their way to help you, and the room's were clean and tidy. The continental breakfast was as standard across europe.
The hotel is located in Praha 2, which is slightly run-down and although fine during daylight hours, with wenceslas square and pavlova station within walking distrance, there is very little to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel which can spoil the evening as taxi fares in the Czech Republic are exorbotant.
This hotel offered value for money, however i would reccomend this hotel for business traveller's looking for budget accomodation, as apposed to the Leisure traveller.
Hotel St George is set in the business area of Prague. This was fine during the day but felt empty and unnerving after dark. Not many local restuarants around. The hotel was very clean and bright and the staff most helpful. The breakfast room was tiled and offered a good selection of food. It took just 5 minutes to walk to the main square, less to the metro, Pavlova. It offered value for money but I would recommend that visitors stay in Prague 1 area for safety and convenience as this hotel was located away from the main roads and in rather a rundown area.

We left Prague this morning and went with a tour group 45 minutes away to the Terezin Concentration Camp. I have heard all my life about the Nazi's and the concentration camps but until you actually see it then it's not really real. Today, it became real.
This camp was a holding area and 150,000 people came through. Most of them were sent to Auschwitz after they left. Supposedly, Terezin was one of the nicer camps. Still, it was awful. ...
... I would have to pay 40 euros or get off at the next stop. Damn. Luckily I had some euros. The cabin next to me had the same problem, but they had no cash and were removed at the next station. Lesson of the day… Always have cash when travelling! (and make the correct reservations)
The train ride itself what not terribly restful. Somewhere in the middle of the night, they had to uncouple the train to send ...

So, back to the park; we took a gondola up to the top of the hill and walked around the gorgeous rose gardens and walkways in the hills, as well as searching for the mirror maze that tempted our mysterious side but ended up saying no as we had to pay, have to be cheap on these trips. We ended up at this hole in the tree line where I think I've taken the ...
... enjoyed a Pina Colada at a waterfront cafe opposite the castle then went on a cruise of the river. I met a delightful Aussie couple who I spent the evening with, sharing travel experiences in Old Town Square over a few drinks :). It was a very relaxing and pleasant day. I really enjoyed Prague and would have liked to stay longer but the next accomodation I had booked had a no refund policy, so I had to leave :). I will return here one day :). ...

It was then back to Prague and time to rest before our next dining adventure with Rachel.
