... viewpoint and saw Bromo, which was a much better sight than sunrise. The morning mist swept over the volcano as the sky got bluer and bluer. When everyone could finally see in daylight, we got mobbed by Asian tourists; everyone wanted a picture with us. We had to grimace with our 5am faces as they lined up to have a picture with us. So weird. So we ran back to the jeep before queues started to form. This wasn't the end of the trip! Driven on to the base of Mount Bromo, we were going ...

We had to pay 5000 rupiah each to enter the cave, this I think is a local scam and not official. You get a group of people put up a home made sign and then charge people. I reluctantly paid making sure they knew I knew it was a scam. The man there tried to offer his guiding service for 50,000 rupiah, we declined.

It’s a steep climb into the cave. ...

... sandwich when I arrived. The restaurant overlooked the river and behind it the Jungle..looking up, the trees go on forever, and you can hear all manner of wildlife swinging through them. I could instantly feel the humidity and my room was very hot. I was happy enough, I had a bed, mossie net, bathroom (shared) and a mirror. However, I did not sleep well, it was far too hot and I quickly learnt of my 6.30am wake up call; Thomas Leaf Monkeys running across the roof and playing ...
