    ... Viking before coming to Scenic. Before that she worked as accountant for 10 years for only €200 / month. She said the money on the ship is much better, though Viking paid double to what Scenic does and she felt Viking are the better ships. We said that ocean liners have a bad reputation for paying poorly and having bad conditions for crew. She said this was true but the river cruisers pay much better wages and the conditions are better eg include health cover etc ...

    ... The road went through a break in the levee bank that would be closed with huge concrete gates when it was necessary to hold back the Danube.

    The last 35 km went quickly. We had averaged about 13kph in total the first hour, improved that to about 15kph for the whole trip. This included the stops for lunch, jumper on, jumper off, battery change, etc etc etc. the actual riding period was completed at about 18 kph. Happy ...

    Day 2 on our bikes. The ducks wake us up bright and early. We begin our ride stopping very quickly at an adorable Gasthof for a warm cup of kaffee while waiting for the ferry which didn't arrive! The sweet Austrian lady did try to tell us something... It must have been that the ferry is no longer running! So we continue on the left bank, hoping the terrain remains flat.
