... this week, so fingers crossed we will go skiing. Last Thursday we went to the local pub, nicknamed 'Blue Bar' purely because the outside light is blue- makes sense I guess. I walked up with hopes that quickly dissolved when I saw that there was only 4 people and the barmaid. A few 'vin rose' later and I thought it was time to head across to where a painfully attractive man was sat. Attempted to speak some French and he tried to speak some English. ...
... was good, but odd: a great thick vegatable soup followed by meatballs on cabbage, instead of pasta (hey, we're in Italy - what's going on?!). Interesting company at dinner - a British guy and his Dutch wife, an Israeli guy travelling alone, and an American couple from Pennsylvania.
I think I kept the whole dorm room up with my snoring that night (or so Barbara tells me).
... breathtaking views we had seen on the entire hike.
Barbara was excited to finally be in Italy. But she never dreamed she would walk to Italy! The downhill to Refugio Elisabetta was pretty easy and through yet another gorgeous valley. We arrived mid-afternoon. The name of the place made me think of my mother a bit. Wish she was here.

Our last refuge in France was de Mottets, quite a relief after the night before. Although it had been converted from a dairy farm, it had spacious, modern rest rooms, hot showers, semi-private bed room (Barbara only had to share with 3 guys this time).
Actually our roomates were very interesting: ...
Lots of steep uphill today, finally reaching one of the highest points of the whole trip, the Col du Bonhomme
At one point Barbara thought she was being attacked by a bull, but after scrambling up a rock to escape it turned out to be a cow with horns in a frisky mood!
Views back down the valley have been stunning. Thankfully the weather has stayed sunny but cool (upper 60's?)- perfect for hiking. ...
