... the lunch hour began. The builders came in in hordes. Seated, supplied with bread and wine followed by pasta and then time to get back to work. We moved on and later found a great pizza place. Pizzas are good here (unlike Rome). We then followed Fabio's advice and caught the ferry into Como. We spent the afternoon walking about the main part of the city - lovely old buildings, huge Duomo (surprise!!), partially unfinished waterfront, shops ...

      Sparkling Lights in Lugano

We arrived in this beautiful city at dusk so we weren't able to get the most out of it. Stayed there only for one hour and we spent that time in Parco Civico capturing the flickering lights of the city surrounded by mountains. The view from the shores of Lake Lugano was fascinating. It's truly a must-visit city and I'd love to go back and see it in broad daylight. ...

It looked like I would be able to make it to Lago Maggiore before dinner time, get some snacks and drinks and go for a cruise along the lake shore.

From Asti I got on to the A21 and the A26 North to Veruno where I got on the SS32 which took me to the Southern part of Lake Maggiore. I followed the West side of the lake ...

Getting to Menaggio, Lake Como was quite chaotic. I missed London and its use of ATMs at stations. We needed to buy bus tickets after catching 2 trains to get to our hostel but of course needed cash out. I shotgunned minding the bags, so poor Courtney had to run up and down stairs to find an ATM. I mean cash machine. However somehow we made the bus! The bus drive was pretty spectacular, panoramic views of the lake. However the driver was really not ...

      The Cinque Terra

A travel blog entry by hayleyfc on Sep 01, 2014

... town where we enjoyed a local glass of white wine. One of the nicest whites we have both had in a while. One last train trip and we were back in La Spezia where we realighted our bus and headed back to Florence. The Cinque Terra - very beautiful, and definately worth a look, but we decided we were glad we only did it as a day trip. Other interesting facts - pine nuts are seeds not nuts. La Spezia (the town of poets) - Byron - English ...
