Within the main temple resides 3 immense wooden Buddhas - Amitabha Buddha (representing longevity and endless light), Sakyamuni Buddha (teacher of the Saha World), and Medicine Buddha (paying respect and making offerings can help one avoid disaster and gain good merit). We thank Kevin for this suggestion, it was a wonderful site to visit. Unfortunately, ...

... unsurfaced road and it was now very hot, thought to be in mid 90's. A short way from the dam we came across a group of 20+ White-backed Vultures arguing over the remains of a carcass - a great photo opportunity of these beasts at their best or is worst. There was also one Hooded Vulture present and luckily he was also able to be photographed well. Fascinating to this smaller vulture sneak in and try and grab a share while the bigger White-backed Vultures squabbled.

Giraffes - We have seen small groups of giraffes a couple of times. I am hoping to see more on our last safari ...

There are seven volunteers and two project coordinators, and we are all staying together in the township. All of us volunteers are in different secondary schools, working as 'educator assistants'- which can mean many different things depending on the school!

The township is very different to any of the places I visited beforehand. For one, it is safe ...

... through the Numbi gate again around 2pm.

Craig had some shopping to do in White River so we said we'd like to see what it's like. Just outside the Numbi gate entrance is a "township" with many shacks or poor houses. Businesses that will say "supermarket" look like they're set up in a structure built in the 1930's to house a one-car garage. Many buildings were partially constructed and then appeared to stop. I saw a ...
