          And now the author visits some descendants in the middle of Siberia. A few old people in a tiny village, half empty, in handmade houses.They know they are "Holendry" but they have no idea where that is. They don't speak Dutch. They are, in fact, completely uneducated.           ... an hour or so before lunch and have the afternoon free for whatever. In that I was completely wrong, we were totally captivated and spent all morning into late lunchtime on the Pommern and a further 2 hours or more in the museum in the afternoon. Both were splendid and well worth the very reasonable €6 entrance fee (for pensioners, of course!).

          So what did we learn? Well life was ******* these boats, crews were away ...

          ... and Mariehamn presented an opportunity to get our laundry done. So, having made the decision there was little point in tarrying and we were off by 10:00 and arrived safely in west harbour by 12:30, having enjoyed lovely sailing for the majority of the way under genoa alone in winds of up to 19 knots.

          It is impossible to mistake the west harbour of Mariehamn with anywhere else because just by the marina is a wonderful example of the peak of merchant sailing ...

          ... fact that house wine and beer was included in the price - dangerous, especially when we've been avoiding alcohol for the most part, put off by the high Scandinavian prices. It's like starving a man for weeks and then sticking him in front of an all-you-can-eat buffet - what would you expect to happen? Wait a second ... that's exactly what happened tonight, it's like we were let out of jail!!
