    A long day today, a two hour drive to Chiemsee to take a boat across the lake to Herrenchiemsee the last of the castles built for Ludwig II that we are going to see on our tour. We make a stop in Bad Toelz on the way to shop for a takeaway lunch and have an excellent coffee and cake. The boat ride is only 15 minutes then we get a horse and carriage to the castle itself.     ... too bad it was pouring rain). Once inside we waited for our tour to begin.

    The tour takes you through the the finished rooms. As Ludwig was "enamoured" with Louis XIV of France, the palace is a mini "Versailles". There is extensive use of Gold Leaf throughout the finished rooms.

I order what I understand to be half a litre of white wine for us to share which then arrives in one half litre beer mug! Apparently it is half wine, half water.
