Cemero Lawang & Mt. Bromo: a REAL volcano!

... what I was seeing when I got to the top... I just kept saying 'Oh my god' over and over and genuinely couldn't stop smiling. It was the most classic looking volcano you could imagine, and they are surprisingly hard to come by. Most don't have that sheer drop into the core of the earth, but this one did... it was so flippin cool. It was steaming slightly, but not so much that you couldn't see into the shaft which was great. After sitting at the top and soaking up the view for ...

... walked fm through for a while but hastily turned on our heel as soon as we saw kittens and puppies in cages! They don't eat dog and cat meat in Indonesia so we assume they were there to be sold as pets. Still so sad to see the little guys in cages, it took all of my resolve not to run over and free them! We continued to walk around the city and saw the noisy mosque and also a Buddhist temple which we went to look around. We found from walking around that the city is pretty ...

We spend the night on plantation and get ready for another early start the next morning - this time we had to leave at 5 am - what luxury!

... This was a particularly beautiful stretch passing through teak plantations and up into pine forests before topping out and winding along an undulating, twisting path with views back down into the valley. The broken road surface made this a more demanding section and even the first few kms of the descent down towards Tulungagung were tough, needing to stay full on the brakes as the road twisted steeply downwards whilst having to throw the bike around the road to avoid ...

Into the live volcano then into living hell!

Stopping once more in Java, we flew to Surabaya. It's not great flying around Indonesia, especially as flying is Natalie's worst nightmare. But for instance, Sumatra would have taken 3 days to cover by land, and Java 11hours even by train! So our only option for the sake of our sanity is taking hour long flights. This one got delayed by an hour or so and for some reason all the Indonesian people caused an uproar; people were shouting, crying, which is strange because what's an hour!? ...
