The staff at this hotel was great. It has a great charm and has been updated. The location near Pizzale Roma was great.

I would recommend this hotels to others for a few reasons. First, the location. Its just one bridge away from Piazza Roma (who really wants to lug there luggage over tons of bridges!). Its not far from the water bus stop so you can easily get to where you want to go. Second is price. It was a little less than $100 a night, which is really good for Venice.

The staff was extremely polite and helpful whenever we had questions. The room was just a basic room, rather small, but I think most rooms in Venice are. The layout of the hotel is a little confusing you have to go through a number and doors and up and down flights of stairs to get to your room. Hard to do with luggage.

The continental breakfast I though was good.

... went upstairs to find ourselves in a room about wars that Italy have been in. We walked out onto the corridor and looked down into Saint Mark's Square... Our jaws dropped. The square was flooded. There were elevated pathways set up so people could cross over. Other's had abandoned their shoes and were walking through the puddles of water.

We then ventured through a set up of a hospital in the war. The manequins were fake but they were very graphic. Blerh!

... presence was very helpful. This monumental church was also rather preoccupied with tourists, like so many, on the day we were there, but the different arrangements of elements, the extraordinary mosaic floors and ceiling were fascinating. It reminded me a great deal of the eastern orthodox churches and that is to be expected. The origins are similar in both churches. We were lucky in our day. It had been closed the day before because some celebration in the church on the ...

Heavy, pea soup fog closed the port in Venice for most of today which meant we were only able to get into the city for a few hours in the late afternoon. Such a disappointment! Although Venice was the only city on our itinerary I'd visited before, I had many things I was hoping to see. But we made the most of it with Joe and Phyllis also venturing into town with Marc's assistance. I set out on my own; the three of them ...

They offered gourmet pizzas, calzones the size of CFL footballs, pasta dishes and local specialties. We finally made our decisions. Pamela couldn't resist the four cheese gnocchi, served with thick slices of freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and a plate full of grilled prawns while Katie feasted on (bib and all) fresh spaghettini with the ...

... in Europe, a "cup" is really a shot or 2-3 sips.

Back at the hotel, Margaret decided to call it a night while I decided to satisfy my curiosity and visit Casino di Venezia. After a 10 minute brisk walk west along the main street, I turned left to the casino. The "book" says to wear a coat and tie. However, I was probably the only one dressed so formally.

There were about 7 roulette tables that were getting decent action. I ...
