The weather at Payolle was dull and cloudy as we packed up to move back towards Villemagne. We are parking with the Weedons so that we can go to the American festival in Castel.
We headed for a cheap campsite in Montréjean. €12 a night gives us electricity, water and dump. It was a pleasant location, and although the pitches were tight for us, we had a couple of days to explore the area around St Gaudens. Lots of supermarkets and ...

... locating the B&B booked a couple of days earlier. After a phone call, we were told to head on a zig zagging road up a mountain. This was one of the steepest ascents I have ever driven. The views above and below were spectacular.

After more difficulty we finally found the accommodation. And WOW, what a location. This charming old farmhouse was perched right on the side of a cliff with uninterrupted 180 degree views over the Pyrenees. And ...

Lots of cyclists cause we are near the Col de Tourmalet. But a tandem?
We stayed here three nights because of the lovely weather and the wonderful peace. Everything is bright green or deep blue. And not 'organised'. There are no signs, no restrictions, no litter, just ...

... cyclists for generations. A long, twisting descent took us past the ski station of La Mongie all the way down to the valley below. At the tiny village of Saint-Marie-de-Campan we turned back into the mountains, heading up to the next climb, the Col d’Aspin (1489m). This climb is shorter and less steep than the Tourmalet, and we ride up through shady woodland; the last 5km of the climb are the steepest. A twisting descent took us down to the pretty ...

10.30hrs. Leaving our rest home and heading south to Lourdes. Some 200 miles. The town of hope, healing and prayer. Great journey through the countryside. Fab to drive as roads great. No heavy traffic on the country roads. Cant get over how vast the country is. Very friendly and fun to share a laugh with. Pit stop for lunch in a small town. First one we ...
