Then off we roll in the Volvo to head to Bamberg Germany. Our hotel is right on the water and it took some work finding it. The GPS had it correct, but the wrong side of the river. We arrived after closing time and the cathedral was closed. Tomorrow we will see that and then head to Koblenz, Germany to the Mosel valley.

Once during the cruise we get to eat in a small specialty restaurant on board. It has Italian style food and is called Portabello's. It only seat 25 and was a unique experience. Have a look at the menu and some pictures of the plated food.

Behind the Bishop's residence there is a rose garden. Unfortunately at this time of year the roses are all gone and the statues boarded up for winter. We can only imagine how beautiful the garden would be in the summer.
There is also a former monastery on the hill that is now a theatre, restaurant and seniors home. The view from there was really nice.

... back to the 17th C. We also tried a smoked beer, which some people refer to as liquid bacon. It has a stronger smoke taste to the Mexican smoked beer we have had at Amigos in Wollongong, and is dark like Guinness, but very tasty. It was pulled directly from a wooden barrel but was very cold. Bamberg really is a gem of a town.
