We arrived in Costa Rica into the capital San Jose. We had planned not to stay here because people told us its just another big city, but were too late to travel on. It was quite nice had a nice feel to it, its weird in Central america a lot of the countries have a small population (Costa Rica is 4 million and something), so even the main citys feel small and not daunting.
Anyway we headed to a place in the mountains which is surrounded but jungle and national parks, Monteverde. ...

... to everyone's credit they had no issue with us doing so.

From San Jose we traveled north for about 4 hours in a private bus through rolling hills to the town of La Fortuna, which sits in the shadow of the vast Arenal volcano. Also....felt like we were locked into a compound. We just didn't "click" with the owner and lived in the same home as he and ...well I could ...

... to be sharing a
hotel with. The Shining.

Despite the motley crew sharing our accommodation with us,
the scenery was quite incredible, and after surviving the night we went for an
explore. We stumbled down a path through the jungle , and were greeted with a
beach so dystopian it might have been from “The Time Machine”. There was a
strip of sand, but this merely separated the trees from the slashes of black
rock filled ...
