As my time in Columbus came to an end, I made a daylong excursion to the Civil War prison site at Andersonville, an hour to the east of Fort Benning. The prison site itself consisted of little more than an open field with scattered memorials and other prison key points such as Wirz's Headquarters and the famous Providence Spring, but the guided tour of the site was very informative ...
... ie..batten down the hatches!! There was a lull until about midnight - then I proceeded through the night - in what best described as going through a continuous car wash!!...boy did it rain. I kept checking the outside ground to make sure there wasn't some creek rising up to get me!! Still rain this am...but warm again. Enough weather!!...boring-- but we do like to talk about it!!! Moving on - south into Florida today ...where to stay on this Christmas Eve??...somewhere dry I ...

After Davis' capture, he was imprisoned for 2 years without trial. While he was imprisoned, his citizenship was revoked for 111 years, until in 1978 when President Jimmy Carter re-instated it.
Davis retired to Biloxi, Mississippi where he wrote him memoirs. He died on December 6, 1889 in New Orleans. He was interred at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.

We sang several old hymns and opened the Word together. It was not a church I would have been drawn to if we had been at home. The music was calm, the message was basic and it was just where we needed to be today. ...
