Only a couple of weeks ago I got informed about a volunteer position onboard the Africa Mercy, i.e. as a Media Liaison Officer. After having discussed this situation with my current employer, I decided to go for it! After the selection procedure, I got the official letter of acceptance: I would serve on the Africa Mercy from Jan - June. A new year, a new adventure!

I only had one month to get everything sorted ...

Ignoring the typical grey sky of a North German autumn we headed out to the spectacular town of Monschau which was established about 1000 years ago. On the way we passed through Holland and Belgium to reach this small German town, an experience that is incomprehensible to an Australian mindset.

It's easier to wake up as the sun rises VERY early in the summer here. Today is cool but sunny with the birds singing. Another breakfast in the garden day--and today we have some of the sugar bread (it is REALLY good!), whole grain bread and butter, hard boiled eggs, sliced cheeses, salmon, fresh fruit, tea and coffee. Definitely we continue to eat very well here.
