... superb private gardens that you can walk through. The artist Nakajima lived here so we went to see his work mostly depicting cherry blossoms, but there were works by other artists that to our surprise included Ayers Rock (Uluru). A lovely young woman saw me looking at a tree I clearly did not recognise. She explained it was a chestnut tree and showed me the hairy brown fruit, and said the little lane we were standing in was called ...

... Walked down to Shibu onsen. People walking from bath to bath wearing Yukata and Japanese shoes. Finally made it back to the ryokan. Put on our Yukata and shoes and walked to a nearby onsen. It was very hot, could only put legs in, Philip squirted cold water on us to help . Went for dinner , then back to the ryokan. Tatami and futons, tiny rice filled pillows. Best things today - the snow ...

Breakfast 7:30 am Check out 9:00 am Drove north to Wajima morning market. Large market, stalls with lacquer ware - very expensive hand-painted, specialty of this area. Also antiques, fish, pickles, pottery, hand-crafted items, etc. Bought a set of 5 lacquer dishes and a vase for Gwen. Drove to Shiota, a salt mining town. Stopped at a museum where there were displays explaining the various methods of extracting salt - from seaweed and from sand. Videos that ...
