MONDAY: We woke to a massive thunderstorm in Florence, with the lightening even very noticeable in our room! Actually it felt like a welcome relief and certainly wasn't cold outside. Not so great in that we had all our bags and cases to navigate across the road to the train station; so out with the umbrellas and after a quick cuppa, by 9am we were hitting the pavement in the downpour.

We had to laugh at all the shonky salesmen, now out trying to ...

    The lighthouse

Again Barbara put on a beautiful spread for breakfast. She also had a cake that is special to Como. Can't remember the name but it was really good.

We went back to our room, turned on the fan chilled out and planned what we would do for the next few ...

... a beer and snacks and the most wonderful passion fruit tartlet. We sat and watched people go by and the ferries come and go. We walked back to the car via a gallery of local artist's work. We bought a picture of Balbianello, the local villa near where we are staying. The road to Como made Lisa a little unsettled and we met a ...

... We are just kind of messing around today. We drove into Asti to see the 14th century Duomo. It was worth stopping to see. It was very dramatic. Frescos covered all the walls and all the vaulted ceilings. It was a very colorful church. I loved the few stained glass windows they had. They looked just like a kaleidoscope.

Once we left the church we saw where the town was having some kind of market. It took us forever to find ...
