    Will write this up as time permits but the highlight for me today was the visit to a little village called Apremont which is very proud of being beautiful and rightly so 20village.html

    Up and off on time. We road up and down a local road to warm up then we headed straight up to Sancerre, a hilltop, medieval village. It was 3kms up. I took it nice and steady and was able to achieve the climb without stopping or getting off.

    What a wonderful spot! Narrow little streets, a wee square with cafes, patisserie surronding it. We sat and had a coffee to let the rest ...

    ... taking the brunt of commerce, many canals are recreational havens. We saw quite a few boats making their leisurely way through the canals and their locks as we pedaled into the ever-present south wind. Riding those 46 miles was a long slog.     ... through the castle we went to the gardens. Unfortunately the fountains were not operational today, but the gardens still looked spectacular.
