... countryside with little villages doted among the green hills and paddocks. The time went very quick as there was so much to see. We arrived and it truely took our breath away. There were Christmas markets in the square which created a very nice atmosphere! We checked in to hotel ...

In the morning, we had a wonderful breakfast with our hostess and once again had an amazing coincidence. The hostess said her daughter is in Iowa on an exchange with AFS. After enquiring at the famous old brewery about tours, and being told to come back at 2pm, we had an unexpectedly excellent time at the Hall of Mirrors. This, a small venue in a ordinary-looking townhouse, had a ground floor mirror-maze to explore (provided you agreed to wear the plastic gloves to avoid unsightly fingermarks) and a "crystal maze" upstairs (unfortunately this was another hall of ...

... that suddenly appeared took away from the dramatic presence the castle had. I climbed up one of the bell towers which offered an amazing view out over the town. For the first time I was able to tell, in detail, how the river wound it's way through the town and how the small streets criss crossed this way and that through the different parts of the town. I was up there the longest by far despite the cold wind. Next I walked through a museum that offered a small glimpse into the life ...
