... Italian villages to pick up and drop off the locals going about their day - fascinating.

Arriving in Aosta, we weren't sure what to expect, but walking around, soon discovered the many ancient ruins from the days of the Roman Empire - arches, bridges, fortresses, towers, and even a huge Roman ampitheater.

The streets were made of stone and narrow and windy and fun ...

The weather had been okay in Paris, I mention the weather as I was hoping it was going to be good so that we'd see the impressive French/Italian Alps. As we headed past the flat agricultural fields of France the clouds started showing up, last year we'd been lucky to see how impressive the alps were but I had a feeling we werent going to be so lucky this time. The mountains start popping up once you head towards Chamberey. ...

We planned to treat ourselves to a ski lift ride down the mountainside and into Cormayeur. We heard that the trail was extremely steep and tiring at the end of an 11 mile day. But, bad luck, it was Sunday, and the lift stopped running just before we got to it, 3 pm. The trail down seemed ...

... out some clothes and hung them out on a clothesline in a super windy spot overlooking a glacier.

Dinner was a terrific risotto dish and pork in a cream sauce. Finally no cheese (were not in France anymore!). We sat across from an older British woman who was walking the whole hike by herself!

We had private room for oursleves which was a treat and we slept like the dead.
