... was still cold and the cloud was very low. I was itching for a ride so decided to tackle some local Cols near us.

They were some great climbs, Villerzembrun climb with its hairpins and early steep ramps out of St Michel and Col de Beau Plan with forest mist through the clouds on quiet roads and only a fool like me out riding them. The early ramps out of St Michel on Villerzembrun were tough but it soon eased off ...

... between my legs I returned to Annecy to pack up and make our way to the Maurienne Valley and the heart of the big Alps climbs.

To rub salt into my wounded ego the SD card in the camera played up so I lost all my pics of the short 50km ride today. Oh well re-format and away we go again.

We visited Albertville, sight of the 1992 winter Olympics and St Jean de Maurienne on our way to St Michel de Maurienne where we will base ourselves for the next week.

There was another site down the road, it was a little cheaper but the pitch was worse, our next site we had planned, in France was only 33miles away, so we decided to head for that, not before stopping in a Pizza Restaurant for a last meal in Italy - it was the best Pizza we had had, and the Tiramisu (Sarah's) and Profiteroles (Tom's) deserts were amazing :)

... stopped for lunch at 1:30pm and after lunch we had a short run to the bus at the 1950 village, which took us back to the funiculaire and home. The reason for the short day was that our lunch was a seafood platter (lobster, crab, oysters, prawns and sea snails) washed down with a bottle of French champagne ( not Cremant!) I have included a photo of us enjoying the spread.

Last day

... huge boom to shift the loose snow. So, until the all clear, only the lower slopes were open with the result that all the lifts were congested with long queues. Anyway, we got going once the tops slopes were open and Sophie, Anna and I headed to the highest peak in the 3 Valleys, Point du Bouchet, at 3230m. Some of the skiing was hard going as there were tricky moguls to navigate but it was worth the effort for the beautiful views ...
