We are now 2/3 of the way down the French west coast and things are changing. Up north, thatched roofs, slate and clay tile roofs, no verandahs, traditional European housing, soft French accents. Down here, the Spanish influence. White walls, terracotta tile roofs, verandahs, and a harsher accent.

The Bassin d'Arcachon is one of my favorite places in France, located in southwestern France a huge bay lined with oyster farms open to the Atlantic that has become a playground for the Bordelaise who spend August and increasingly September at the fine sand beaches, dining in excellent restaurants, riding bikes through the myriad trails, shopping at the covered market or just being ...
... the locals do it. Already I am grateful we took this approach to seeing this truly beautiful country and avoided all the tourists traps. I can understand now why the French are so proud of the country.
Off to our next stop, I am excited.
