We arranged to go snow shoeing today. Our guest house host is a mountain guide so he is taking us out for an adventure which is great. We can only do a half day today due to the weather coming in snowy in the afternoon but that is fine, still gives us a taste of it. We got kitted out with boots and snow shoes and poles and bundled into the van to head up the road. It is about 2* so not too chilly. We had to get the right balance of warm but not ...

Today is the day to venture up to the Japanese Alps to Myokokogan. Marina was lovely enough to drop us over to the train rather than us having to go all the way back down to Nagano and back up on the other line. The train had few other tourist looking mobs on it heading up to the ski resorts. It was a pretty journey up through the hills with the snow getting deeper and deeper. We ...

Today was to be Scotty's choice of activity and after a homemade brekky we got the train back down to Nagano to see the Zenko-Ji temple. The forecast was for about 2* max so we were pretty ...

Lucky we are not. Back at Kura we sat in the lounge room and chatted with the others, a couple of guys were being interviewed by a writer who does articles about some of the tourists who stay here. We sat and listened til our fluffy warm beds ...

... stops and pretty easy to navigate. Ueno station was huge and we finally found the right ticket office to get out pass from. After this we went and got some food to take on the train for lunch. There was a place which had lots of choices so we got a mix, some gyoza, some rice with beans and some yakkitori chicken skewers. It was all lovingly wrapped in tons of plastic for the bin! The train journey itself was lovely, nice comfy seats, great view of the snowy hills beyond. It ...
